Pharmaceutical Hair Loss treatment is a prescription treatment, effective for regaining hair growth for hair thinning, and early stage of common baldness. Harley Street Hair Transplant provides prescriptions for the treatment by our highly qualified hair loss specialists. Hair Loss medications include Finasteride and Minoxidil based drugs, that are both approved by the FDA.
How Hair Loss Medications Work
Hair loss medications work by two means.
Finasteride come as oral tablets that control DHT levels causing androgenic alopecia, while Minoxidil topical lotions repair inflamed hair follicles thus regaining hair growth.
Medical hair loss treatment is an option to slow down progressive hair thinning and hair line recession, but it would never grow hair back on a bald scalp. The usage of the medicines with the first signs of a hair thinning is likely to work most subsequently in avoiding future baldness for more time.
We widely use Finasteride, available by the brand names Proscar and Propecia, because it is the only FDA approved oral drug for hair loss treatment. This is a 5alpha reductase inhibitor which functions by lowering the levels of DHT in the dermal papillae, and prevent it from inflaming healthy hair follicles.
Finasteride was initially developed for treatment of prostatic hyperplasia that worked in blocking the 5alpha reductase in male androgens that releases the steroid dehidrotestosterone. It has been widely evident that the continued usage of finasteride has seen hair growth increase of about 30%- 70% with both men and women. We do not recommend Finasteride for women, because sometimes it might cause complication pregnancy and child birth.
Minoxidil is available by the brand name Rogaine, which is a topical medicine to be applied directly on eh scalp. it works by elongating the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle, effectual in causing miniaturised hair to grow thicker and longer. Rogaine actually nurtures hair follicle to fight against DHT inflammations or other causes of hair follicular loss, but it does not directly work with androgens unlike FInasteride.
Minoxidil is prescribed in concentration of 3% foam formulation for men and 2%foam formulation for women. Along with male baldness, minoxidil is effectual in treating scarring alopecia and shock loss. Minoxidil can be availed without prescriptions in many regions but it requires proper usage.
